Credentials for Implant Dentists
All dentists must be licensed in their state.
A doctor offering the dental implant procedure is likely to have had
extensive continuing education and training as well as membership and
participation in dental implant organizations. These credentials will
likey include International Congress of Oral Implantologists - ICOI,
Implant Dentistry Research and Education Foundation - IDREF, American
Academy of Implant Dentistry - AAID, Association of Dental Implant
Auxilaries - ADIA, Academy of Osseointegration, American Academy of
Implant Prosthodontics - AAIP, and the American Academy of
Periodontology. You can find links to each of these groups and more on
my Helpful Links page.
You want a doctor who has enhanced their skills and
can provide the most advanced cosmetic and restorative techniques available under rigorous
standards. Always ask what they have done to further their skills in this field, and don't
hesitate to press for specifics. After narrowing down which dentists you're considering,
verify their dental license with your state's Dental License Board Examiner. The next page
will help you to do that.
