Types of dental implant supported dentures
The two types of dental implant
supported dentures are the bar-retained and ball-retained. Both utilize
a denture made up of an acrylic base that looks like gums with porcelain
or acrylic false teeth that look like natural teeth attached to the
base. The primary difference is the number of implants needed with each
type, which can affect the over all cost. Bar-retained dentures will
require a minimum of three dental implants implants and the
ball-retained dentures requires a minimum of two implants.
Bar-attached dentures have thin metal bar that follows the curve of your
jaw. It's attached to from two to five implants with clips that are
fitted to the bar and the denture. The denture itself is securely
clipped into place by the attachments.
Ball-attached dentures are attached to your implants with metal
attachments that fit into one another on the denture. Usually the
attachments on the actual implants are ball-shaped and they fit into
sockets in the denture.
